Akash Kumar has been working with Sanjeevani Kalyan Kendra (SSK) as an RSP (Rights Services Product) Coordinator for over a year now. Based out of Haryana’s Muhammadpur, SSK is the on-ground implementation arm of Swasti – a partner organization of #COVIDActionCollab (CAC).
At SSK, Akash works with a range of beneficiaries including migrant workers, senior citizens, students, and women, providing them with relevant information about various government schemes. He also supports the beneficiaries in identifying the benefits and the processes involved in availing of these schemes.
“As an RSP Coordinator, I assist people with awareness surrounding their rights and provide them with the relevant information on financial services, old-age pension, various scholarships, and schemes launched by the government. I also assist my team in providing support on Social Protection for those we work with,” Akash said.
Originally from Bihar, Akash has completed his post-graduation in Masters of Computer Applications and worked as a teacher for remedial education at a government school before he joined SSK.
“Even though I come from a completely different educational and professional background, I have always wanted to be in this field. The joy I get from helping others is my motivation to be present at work every day and I really enjoy my work here at Sanjeevani. Every day I get to learn more, interact with people, understand their problems, and help them lead better lives,” Akash shared.
Sharing his experience at Sanjeevani, he said that last year he worked with his team to organize vaccination drives in various companies in Gurugram for a span of four months. “As an RSP Coordinator, I was actively involved in implementing the vaccination drive which was held for workers in many factories in the district, and we covered nearly 30,000 people from around 25 companies during this period,” he added.
The #COVIDActionCollab has been able to reach the last mile because of those like Akash who continue to reach the most vulnerable. With their support, we’ve been able to ensure that vulnerable communities remain aware of their rights and through the Social Protection help desks, avail the benefits of several schemes and programmes designed for them by the Government. Bound by a common objective of making people from vulnerable communities self-reliant and resilient, CAC and its partner organizations are working towards creating a meaningful impact.
